Permanent problems from vaginal mesh

Vaginal mesh, while still in use for things like the treatment of pelvic organ prolapse and urinary incontinence, has caused severe complications for thousands of women. As a treatment that is designed to be permanent, the mesh can be difficult – or even impossible – to remove. As such, many patients are forced to live with permanent problems relating to their health and well-being.

Those who have experienced complications often had no idea that such risks were involved, which means that there can be ethical issues with regard to the treatment they have been given. For patients who have been subjected to this questionable surgical procedure, it may be possible to make a medical negligence claim if a medical professional is found to be at fault.

The Vaginal Mesh Lawyers are strong opponents of this risky treatment. We are here to help anyone who has fallen victim to the devastating complications of vaginal mesh.

Should there be a vaginal mesh ban?

In November 2017, the health watchdog NICE issued a recommendation for a vaginal mesh ban. The month before, the government opposed calls to ban the treatment.

These two opposing viewpoints provide just one example of the controversy that still surrounds vaginal mesh implants, which have faced criticism both in the UK and across the world.

The mesh implants, which are used to treat issues such as pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and stress urinary incontinence (SUI), have widely been condemned by women who have undergone the treatment, many of whom now have irreversible complications and constant pain.

TVT mesh complications

The use of transvaginal tape (TVT) and mesh has caused some patients to suffer from serious pain and irreversible damage arising from TVT mesh complications.

TVT and TVM have been used to treat pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and stress urinary incontinence (SUI) for years. This is despite the record number of women who have been reporting complications and catastrophic damage from these devices since 2008.

The use of mesh implant devices has been dramatically reduced in recent years, but only in July 2018 did the NHS put a pause on their use in most cases. Despite this, transvaginal mesh and tape is still used in certain ‘unavoidable’ cases and still can still cause TVT mesh complications to this day.

Claim for neuromuscular problems from vaginal mesh surgery

Transvaginal mesh and transvaginal tape surgery can cause many complications. One of the more serious complications that can arise after surgery is neuromuscular problems. This means that your muscles can be impaired, and this can lead to many issues for patients.

The number of complications that could arise from transvaginal mesh or transvaginal tape surgery is huge. For a long time now, women around the world have been suffering from serious and lifelong issues, and complications can be so bad, in some cases, that women are left worse off than before their surgery.

Anyone who has suffered problems and complications from vaginal mesh surgery, including neuromuscular problems, could be eligible to make a compensation claim. For eligible clients, we can offer No Win, No Fee legal representation.

Speak to our expert legal team today to discuss your compensation claim today.

More than 92,000 women in the UK have been fitted with transvaginal mesh or transvaginal tape between 2007 and 2015. Following concerns over the safety of these devices, recent figures have slowed down. However, there are still women today being fitted with mesh or tape that could have catastrophic side-effects.

Pelvic mesh inquiry results said to “vindicate” patients

It’s understood that the results of a pelvic mesh inquiry are set to “vindicate” patients who have been complaining of issues for years.

We represent a number of women for vaginal mesh compensation claims, so we know how bad people can suffer. In some cases, women have been left with irreversible damage that has changed their lives forever.

According to the Daily Mail, a review from the Independent Medicines And Medical Devices Safety is set to be published soon. Reportedly, the pelvic mesh inquiry review will reveal worrying revelations about how women suffering from  horrendous complications were reportedly doubted and ignored, despite presenting with serious symptoms. Others were said to have been questioned despite suffering from chronic pain and problems.

Sandwell and West Birmingham Pelvic Mesh Claims

You may recall the Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust pelvic mesh issues involving former patients of Dr Angamuthu Arunkalaivanan that triggered a significant recall.

It’s an issue that dates back from a few years, so most patients will have received their recall letters and any additional steps that needed to be undertaken should have been done so. However, if some patients experience problems a long time after the recall notification, there may still be time left to claim.

We must stress that you must contact our team ASAP to determine if you are still in time, though. But, since we have resolved legal action that we have taken for this issue, we wanted to remind those who were affected about their rights to pursue compensation.

The problem with long-term pelvic mesh complications

The issue with long-term pelvic mesh complications is that they can be permanent and severe, and there’s still too little evidence being properly assessed in many people’s view.

When the revised NICE guidelines were published last year that allowed the continuation of this controversial procedure, there was a suggestion that there was an absence of long-term knowledge. However, this has been strongly challenged on the basis that there are thousands of women worldwide who have been suffering serious mesh implant complications for years, yet their voices appear to not be heard.

We act for women who are suffering from irreversible damage from a vaginal mesh procedure. Although we can make sure that women are entitled to justice with a claim for personal injury compensation, we believe far more needs to be done to address the underlying problems.
