We think that people are right to be worried about pelvic mesh safety, especially as we\u2019re lawyers who have seen first-hand just how bad the problems can be.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re acting for a number of women who are claiming mesh implant compensation<\/strong><\/a>. Some of the complications our client have suffered are serious. Some women can be left with lifelong problems that can leave them unable to walk or work ever again.<\/p>\n

The recent revised guidelines have been criticised<\/strong> <\/a>as not going far enough to ensure that women are protected when this procedure is an option on the table. The debate over pelvic mesh safety may well continue for quite some time.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

How dangerous can pelvic mesh be?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

One of the primary reasons that pelvic mesh safety is so heavily criticised is because of how damaging it can be when things do go wrong.<\/p>\n

Surgically-implanted mesh is designed to be a permanent solution to problems such as incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse. As the procedure is intended to be a permanent solution, revision surgery can be incredibly hard to perform. In fact, it can sometimes be impossible to remove vaginal mesh once it has been inserted.<\/p>\n

This means that if the device fails and you suffer problems, it can be hard – or sometimes impossible – to do anything about it. You could be left suffering with problems for the rest of your life.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s being done about pelvic mesh safety?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The revised guidelines introduced earlier this month<\/strong> <\/a>are designed to improve pelvic mesh safety, but many have argued that they don\u2019t go far enough.<\/p>\n

One of the main criticisms was over the idea that there\u2019s a lack of long-term knowledge about the safety of the devices. With thousands of women reporting problems for many, many years, there\u2019s clearly a great deal of knowledge that\u2019s already out there.<\/p>\n

Although only experienced surgeons ought to be carrying out the procedure, you have to remember that mesh is a foreign body being placed inside a human. The risks of the body rejecting the mesh and complications arising are serious. Despite the ongoing concerns, thousands of women each year are undergoing the procedure.<\/p>\n

All we can do as lawyers is support people if things do go wrong. You can make a claim for personal injury compensation<\/strong><\/a> if a mesh implant fails.
